Welcome to Rumo
Rumo village lies 20 km north from Valtimo centrum. Name Rumo means a rowing boat, which is turned upside down. The name for the village in well chosen, because in Rumo there are no lakes, only rivers.
In Rumo live about 80 people, summertime more. The school of Rumo is vivid, about 20 pupils and 2 teachers. The children of villages Koppelo, Puukari, Rasimaki, Rumo and Verkkojoki go to school of Rumo.
The villagers of Rumo are very active both in trade and in leisure. The villagers have also repaired an old farmer´s society house. There are 3 active hunting societies in Rumo. The most important game is elk.
The village committee
The village committee of Rumo was established in 1981. The committee organises several different occasions round the year: balls, sport competitions, theatre excursions... Year 1999 they had a happy celebration: in Rumo there was born a first child in 10 years. The village committee of Rumo has a close relation to the village committee of Verkkojoki.
Sights and activities in Rumo
The famous tracking route, UKK-route, winds through the beautiful sceneries of ridges and rivers. Summertime you can hike there and in winter ski.
